Mixers tested with this Gin

    Interesting

    Goldberg Japanese Yuzu Tonic

An intriguing mix of fruity and bitter notes. The gin shapes the tonic rather than the other way round. Not bad, though.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Easy-drinking citrus

    Goldberg Mediterranean Tonic

I like this combination. It's citrus-led and spicy at the same time, and lovely with ice. Probably my favourite.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Pure bitterness

    Goldberg Tonic Water

If you want a really bracing Gin and Tonic, this is the one. The tonic heads straight for the bitter end of the spectrum. Don't worry, though: citrus follows close behind.

    Nope

    Goldberg Ginger Ale

Unfortunately, this isn't a match. It's just sweet, with the ginger ale only becoming faintly apparent right at the end. The gin takes an unpleasant aromatic turn. Somehow, no.

  • Fit: 0 out of 3

    Grapefruit pith

    Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water

This is a really unpleasant combination. The gin pushes the tonic in an extremely bitter direction, like chewing the inside of a grapefruit peel. And it's incredibly sweet.

    Don't mix this

    Windspiel Tonic Water

Another one that won't make the cut. Bitter notes and a few botanicals come through in an unpleasant combination. A wild mix that's wrong from A to Y.

    Who let the herbs out?

    Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water

Few gins push Mediterranean tonic into the background. Here, the herbal character suddenly moves ahead of the tonic. In this combination, though, it isn't so unpleasant.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Dry and furry

    Mistelhain Trend Tonic

The tonic is naturally fruity and juicy, but the gin adds a furry note to the flavour. It's like having a rabbit in your mouth. Thoroughly dry.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Juicy

    Doctor Polidori Dry Tonic Water

Not the world's best combination, but definitely mixable. Sweet and juicy, with a little lemon and a hint of bitterness.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Tough cucumber

    Doctor Polidori Cucumber Tonic Water

Worth a go. The sweetness only becomes clear after a moment. At first, it's a bracing, bitter, cucumber-heavy mix. Worth trying.

    Never have I ever

    Mistelhain Ambition Tonic

The tonic is very intense, but this makes an interesting mix. The gin steers it in quite a good direction. Juicy, but a little rough-edged, too.
