Mixers tested with this Gin

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Yuzu and plum

    Goldberg Japanese Yuzu Tonic

You don't get much gin through the tonic, but there's a lovely plum-like touch and a little bitterness from the yuzu.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    A tough mix

    Goldberg Indian Hibiscus Tonic

Here's a gin that brings the hibiscus out of its corner and plays with it. It's got enough kick to hold its own, provided you like this kind of tonic in the first place.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Honey-sweet

    Goldberg Mediterranean Tonic

The gin is there, but the extraordinary sweetness of this combination isn't so pleasant. Maybe with a mountain of ice. Otherwise, it's too much sugar.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    A good fit

    Goldberg Tonic Water

The gin comes through well with this tonic. I like it: a little sweet, but ice sorts that out. The juniper is lovely, as are the other botanicals.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Bitter and fresh

    Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water

A good combination. The juniper comes through even better than with Goldberg. Mixes well. Plenty of ice.

  • Fit: 0 out of 3

    A little soapy

    Windspiel Tonic Water

Somehow this doesn't quite work. It starts pleasantly, then a soapiness suddenly follows. No, better not.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    All lemonade

    Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water

For me, the tonic's sweet style dominates too much. No need.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Back and forth

    Mistelhain Ambition Tonic

Not my favourite, but the gin and tonic flavours swing back and forth like a pendulum. Worth a try.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Dry

    Doctor Polidori Dry Tonic Water

The mix is okay, but it feels a little hesitant, almost furry. More enjoyable with ice.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    A twist

    Doctor Polidori Cucumber Tonic Water

Cucumber is certainly dominant, but the gin gives the tonic a good twist for once.
