Mixers tested with this Gin

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Sweet tea

    Goldberg Tonic Water

But there's much more to it, really. You can taste the grain from the base spirit very intensely. Almost a whisky gin.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Juicier

    Doctor Polidori Dry Tonic Water

Grain and tea here too, but more floral and a little dry at the same time. Just as black tea can be.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Tea galore

    Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water

The black tea comes through much more than the grain here. Nicely dry, and you can tell how well tea works in gin.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Very sweet

    Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water

Very sweet, with the tea stronger in the aftertaste. It's there, but only really gets going after a moment.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Bitter and malty

    Goldberg Mediterranean Tonic

The grain wins out again here, though there's also a bold bitterness. It might suit some people, but perhaps not all evening. More of a single G&T.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Close combat

    Doctor Polidori Cucumber Tonic Water

It's interesting how the cucumber and grain get into a scrap here. They're fighting each other for first place. But it works reasonably well.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Complex sweets

    Mistelhain Trend Tonic

Sweet, with a thousand things happening at once. The tonic notes are intense, but the grain also plays its part. Not much tea or juniper.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    I'd rather have the Trend

    Mistelhain Ambition Tonic

The grain comes through more clearly here, but the Trend was somehow more interesting.

  • Fit: 0 out of 3

    Too bitter

    Goldberg Japanese Yuzu Tonic

Unfortunately, this doesn't work at all. Extremely bitter, with really harsh peel notes.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Biiiitter

    Goldberg Pink Grapefruit Soda

Lots of tea, lots of bitterness. The grapefruit is a nice touch, but this is pretty tough going. Better than with the Yuzu, though. By miles.
