About this bottle

Tasting notes

On the nose

Hello, pure juniper. The first sniff is like a trip to classic gin and juniper heaven. There are plenty of intensely junipery gins, and this one deserves a place on the list: juniper, lots of juniper, a good helping of citrus, cardamom and a little earthiness.

Taste and finish

Neat, Pure Gin is a lovely mix of earthy and spicy flavours. Juniper opens the door and stays throughout. Sweetness and a rich body follow the heat and spice, accompanied by orange and lemon notes. It's beautifully balanced, with plenty of depth. The flavour stays enjoyable for a long time; it hasn't been cheaply thrown together. The 40% ABV isn't too strong, and there's no burning alcohol taste. A long aftertaste with chilli-like heat and a few shifts lingers for quite a while. A certain freshness and gentle variation also remain for a while.

Perfect serve

One recommendation from the distillery is 1724 Tonic Water.

Final thoughts

There are several gins from this distillery on the gin shelf, including Harry's Waldgin and Brombyrina Silkgin. They're lovely products, which already gives you confidence that this will be a good gin too. I like the clear statement the gin makes in its very name. No bullshit: juniper, punchy and crisp. It definitely deserves a good spot on your shelf as well.

Does Pure Gin live up to its name? Created and produced by the Hubertus Vallendar distillery in Kail, near the Moselle. Pure as in pure juniper?
