Mixers tested with this Gin

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Too bitter

    Goldberg Japanese Yuzu Tonic

A little too bitter for me. And a little too dry and furry. There are better combinations.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Bold

    Goldberg Mediterranean Tonic

Even though it feels as if a lot of sugar is calling the shots, this is a bold mix. The two play together quite nicely.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    Solid, but sweet

    Goldberg Tonic Water

It doesn't exactly knock me off my perch. The sweetness doesn't do the gin's spicy character many favours.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Yeah…

    Goldberg Ginger Ale

If you fancy something other than tonic, this doesn't work badly at all. The gin is easy to recognise, and the ginger ale isn't quite its usual self either. A good fit!

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Dry and good

    Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water

I like this. The gin comes through. It could be a little less sweet, but with ice and nicely chilled, it's good.

  • Fit: 3 out of 3

    Niiiice!

    Windspiel Tonic Water

These two play well together too. Bitter, herbal and sweet, all in a lovely interplay. They come together well.

  • Fit: 0 out of 3

    Soapy lemonade

    Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water

Definitely too sweet, and together they head in an unpleasantly soapy direction. You can skip this one.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    It gives up

    Mistelhain Trend Tonic

The gin is no weakling, but it doesn't really come through here. You have to taste carefully to find it.

  • Fit: 3 out of 3

    Oh? Mediterranean?

    Doctor Polidori Dry Tonic Water

This mix is a surprise, almost in the style of a Mediterranean tonic. It picks up the gin beautifully, with lots of other notes alongside. It gets a little sweet, but add ice and you're sorted.

  • Fit: 2 out of 3

    Tart and fresh

    Doctor Polidori Cucumber Tonic Water

These two like each other in a refreshing way. A pleasant touch of acidity comes from the mix, giving it a livelier note.

  • Fit: 1 out of 3

    They get along

    Mistelhain Ambition Tonic

This works better than with the Trend Tonic. No big hit, but close to a two. Probably depends on the day. A little more floral, of course, thanks to the tonic.
