Mango Lassi with Gin Liqueur
A Mango Lassi may have been the obvious gin cocktail to make with a mango gin liqueur in front of me. Sometimes it still takes a moment to see it. It certainly did for me this time.
Ingredients
-
60 ml
Mango gin liqueur
-
40 ml
Simple syrup
-
40 ml
Lemon juice
-
80 ml
Milk
-
15 ml
Low-fat yoghurt
-
2
Ice cubes
Steps to make the drink
- Put the gin liqueur, simple syrup, milk and yoghurt in a smoothie maker.
- Then add the ice, followed by the lemon juice.
- Blend for about 45 seconds, until you can't hear lumps of ice hitting the blades any more.
- Serve in a chilled glass with 2–3 ice cubes to keep the drink cold.
- Garnish with lemon zest for a fresh aroma.
Mango Lassi as an appetiser or summer drink
You'll often find a Mango Lassi on the menu at an Indian restaurant, for example. This creamy, fruity drink made with milk, yoghurt and fruit comes from India and makes waiting for your food a pleasure. It can also be very welcome after spicy dishes, taking the edge off a fiery assault on the palate.
A Mango Lassi also makes a delicious summer alternative to ice cream or the usual sparkling apple juice. Well chilled, it is a real pleasure: dessert and a drink in one. Time to combine those advantages with the pleasures of a cocktail.
This drink's at its best when it's properly cold. Milk and yoghurt usually are already, but you could put the other ingredients in the fridge, too. That way, your Mango Lassi stays refreshingly cool for longer.
If you have a smoothie maker or blender that can crush ice cubes, that's your best option. It makes the mango drink nicely frothy and thoroughly mixed. Alternatively, you can use a mixing vessel or a cocktail shaker. I've put together some shaker tips in a cocktail set article.
A lassi variation with raspberries
The Burgen gin liqueur with raspberries in the recipe is practically crying out for a few fresh or frozen raspberries. They add even more fruit to the drink and let you vary a tray of several drinks. A raspberry or two on top also makes a fitting garnish.
